I can probably best respond to your depth question with the very ambiguous reply of "it depends." For example, in my area of southern California, ground mineralization is pretty consistently high, which means that I would have to keep the gain at about 9 with the stock coil to prevent falsing. With this setup, I was regularly hitting coins in the 4-6 inch range and occasionally getting them down to 7 or 8 inches. Deepest was, I believe, 10 inches. With less ground mineralization, you can crank up the gain and effectively increase the depth of the machine. For instance, I recently switched to the 10x6 DD coil, which helps with the ground minerals. I can put the gain at +1-+2 and am regularly hitting targets at 6-8 inches, and sometimes pick up weak targets at 10 inches or more, depending on size of the target, etc. So trying out other coils can be helpful with regard to depth. You can also play with locking the ground balance if mineralization is high--this seemed to help with depth and VDI readings on deeper items.
