Hi from Scotland UK

Just a few quick words to say hi....
Been detecting now for about 4 yrs with various detectors and have just recently purchased a xterra 70 and all i can say about it at the moment is i am impressed with its stability, sensitivity and general ease of use, its a joy.
I havn't found any ilusive hammerd coins with it yet but i am sure the sensitivity is there for the job if the ammount of air rifle pellets i have found is anything to go by, its just a matter of time!
will have a read through your forum with interest,
Regards.
Andy.

Welcome to the 70 forum! As soon as you find a hammered coin we want to see you post it on here for all of us see! We all enjoy other peoples experiences and photo's. We wish you all the best on your treasure hunts and look forward to your future posts.
Cheers!

I have been using an X-terra 30 for about 6 months and had some decent Roman, Medieval,Georgian, gold rings and silver coin finds. My only complaint is that the iron still sounds quite positive if its over a nail and you end up digging it. Can't complain though.

I also have a Muskateer which is pretty good - had a couple of hammered off it!

Good luck finding your first hammered coins. You have the detector that can find them if they are there. If you find more hammered coins than you need send me one,LOL. HH Dennis in Idaho

Hi & welcome,

was just wondering what the law is like in Scotland for detectorists. I understand it's a bit different to the law in England (with its Portable Antiquities Scheme). Is that correct?

G,day Andy. I read once about a reef or two being worked ages ago in your land for gold. The gold was small in the quartz but the 70 is A1 at finding that sort of gold. There would have to be something left over where they worked them youd reckon!
Good luck.

I have already got my 1st Hammy and many more to go with it but just none of them were found with the xt 70 but i will give it my best shot this week end.
Hears a pic of the most recent of my finds with the Explorer 11, an edward 1st penny.

Hi B.T,
There is a small moorland village near me called "Wanlock Head" where gold can be found in the small moorland streams so i maywell give this a try this summer:detecting::minelab:

Very nice! I used to have an explorer II and would get another one if it came my way, I loved that detector. I loved the way it sniffed out coins DEEP! it's just a pity its so heavy and cumbersome and sucks the power so much. I love the lightness of the 70 and absolutely love the prospect mode. I'm positive you will have success with hammered coins using the right coil with the 70. All the best!
Cheers!

Hi Rob,
Yea its slightly different up ere north o the border, baisacaly anything of any historic interest be it stone, wood or metal should be handed into the correct authorities, they will then decide if the item/items are classed as treasure, if they are the reward is then paid to the finder but if not the item is returned to the finder.
Also in scotland if you find lets say one old coin it still has to be handed in whereas in england the same coin found on its own could be kept by the finder unless it is found with other coins relating to that period and in the same find area then it shoud be declaired.:confused::wacko:

Very nice Celtic Gold coin! Is it pure gold or wrapped? Do you know the date and tribe it came from? 50 BC maybe and looks like an Addedomaros (spell??) would be a long way from home if it is. If your blood line is Scottish then you are the last of the Celts. The XT70 does well on finding the small and deep targets, very nice machine. HH, Mike

Hi MIKE
Its a North East coast stater of the Corieltauvi, probably produced c. 50-40 BC. The catalogue references for the type are VA 805-11 in Van Arsdell's 'Celtic Coinage of Britain', and no. 29 in Spink's 'Coins of England'.
It was my 1st gold coin and "what a coin for my 1st"! It is solid gold and weighs 5.8 grams.
I found it with my Explorer 11 and to say i was over joyed is an under-statement! I droped my machine and ran over and jumped on my uncle who was detecting at the other side of the field.
Heres a better pic of the coin both sides.

very beautiful coin and thanks for the pic! I have been detecting between a Celtic fortress from 400 BC and a castle from 1551 AD, can not find a dang thing old here!!! HH, Mike
