Hi all on the forum, especially Mike Hillis who has helped me no end with his words of wisdom regarding my F5. I have been using my F5 on and off for two years now
and mainly used it as my back up detector to my Ace 250. A couple of months ago I bit the bullitt and sold the Ace so that I could give the F5 my undivided attention.
Its the best move I could have made as the more I use it the more I learn and find. Ive clocked about 80 hours use but still have a bit to go on learning all its tricks
and its fine tuning. The thing I cant get my head around completely is working the gain and threshold together, could someone explain this in as simple a way as possible. I normally detect on farmland with Gain 80 Thresh +2 disc 5 Fe usually 2 bars but sometimes I only seem to be getting hits around 3-4 inches then I could go to the park use the exact same settings and get 8 inch no problem. These simple issues I will resolve soon I am sure, all said and done I think the F5 is a fabulous piece of kit and i'll have it for a while yet. funny thing is i'm the only one i've seen with one over here in Jockland (lol) plenty F2s 3s and 4s but no F5s. Im in a forum called toddysdetecting.co.uk and there is a club dig on very historical grounds almost every week and there have been some terrific finds recently you guys should pop in and see what we are finding over here. Heres a couple of solid silver coins I recently found, not very old but nice to find sweet sound when the F5 hit them. PS do you lose depth the more tones you use?
thanks in advance.
Rab.
