I have been lurking. Haven't had time to do much detecting but got out today. Went to a old home stead about 1/4 mile from my house. I found an old spoon on the back it says 1881 Rogers. What would be the best way to clean it? I will try and post a pix tomorrow. It has green on it and i think sand mixed in the green. Any hints would be great. Don't want to damage it any more than it is already.

Rodgers bros silverware is popular I found a spoon awhile back in the remembrance pattern it is silverplate. Welcome back CNR

I will try the toothpaste. Right now I have it soaking in olive oil. I think mine is the La Vigne pattern it has grape clusters starting at the end and spaced up to the spoon part. Wish me luck i'm going back to this place on Tues.(hopefully) There is an old dirt cellar there i want to go in someday if i can. It's in pretty bad shape. I know there are still some old fruit jars still in it too.

The spoon is likely plated. If it were all silver it would come from the ground like a silver coin (clean)
I just use a tooth brush and water to clean them up.

i believe it it silver plated too. i still have it soaking. i will try toothbrush and toothpaste tomorrow thanks for the input

I remember you, Martha, and congrats on finding the 1881 Rogers Spoon, sounds like a pretty pattern....good luck in getting it cleaned! :)

God Bless!
