Hi,
just bought this 1500 and got to say how how pleased i am.
Had an explorer xs and found it heavy and cumbersome and very noisy, ok some of you will disagree but that's my opinion.
Just wish I had bought the 15oo to start... it makes life so easy!!
Ive a back problem and the 1500 means i am not digging as much, as I can tell before I start what I might be digging with the info I see
Ok might miss odd bits, but i'm a happy man
Thinking of upgrading to a 2500 anyone know what I might gain by doing this or should I just stay with my dream machine?
What have I found,
Well I live in the uk and have got many coins from the 1700 plus lots of relics
We are lucky here that we can find different things dating back to 2000bc or more, but have not done this yet.
Still, have some roman coins and yes most have these have been found with this superb machine the 1500
Don't get me wrong the explorer xs is ok but just not for me.
anyone who has had experience on the 2500 please let me know as i would like to know if it's woth trading in my 1500 for it
all the best

Isn't the 1500 a pleasure to use. I have another machine which gets good reviews but I enjoy the 1500. I find it easy to operate and it seems more relaxing to use. From everything I've read on this Forum you won't really gain a lot with the 2500 if you're happy with what you have. There are a lot of happy hunters here that uses the 1500.

The single significant advantage of the 2500 (to my limited knowledge) is a true 'all metal' mode. This is different than the zero discrimination mode on the 1500 which keeps the disc circuit active.
The all metal mode on the 2500 is rumored to gain you a couple more inches of depth than the 1500 in zero disc. But if you have back problems, the additional weight might be a critical factor. I own both, and use the 1500 more than the 2500, and I don't have back problems, I'm just basically lazy... And don't want to dig that deep anyway.
Check the Garrett site and see if you want to carry the additional weight. If so, the couple additional inches in your area could be seeing or missing a roman hoard! Good luck!

Good choice...indeed the all metal mode that ID's of the 2500 is superior in depth to the 1500. Personally dug a 13 inch measured barber dime that had a right on ID..If the make up of an Explorer bothered you would stay with the 1500 as the 2500 is boxier, heavier and may bother you also..Good luck in your ventures and indeed the imaging will alleviate digging deep junk..

Hi,
many thanks for all your comments, It seems that I may as well stay with the 1500 ans it's lighter...ok might miss odd bits but that's the luck of the draw
Funny thing is that a couple of hoards have been discovered in the UK and both were near the surface, including a single coin valued at 250,000 pounds and more or less on the surface.
Wish it were me that found them, still will keep looking
thanks

If you have a bad back I'd stick with the 1500. You won't miss that much. The 1500 will get down deeper than most think. The only real advantage of the 2500 is true all metal.
