Hey Vernon! The P1853 Finally Arrived!:clapping:

Michigan Badger

New member
As you can see the wood has some issues behind the breach and on the wall side of the stock.

The show side of the wood looks pretty good. Too bad about the wood behind the breach. But, that's the way it goes with these.

I was thrilled to see all hardware and a nice round straight barrel:clap:

Like Vernon it could of been better but also a lot worse.

Well I'm not Brandy but I'll venture a comment.

The only option left for a wall hanger is to either leave it as is (history) or fill in the breach area and blend into the cleaned original patina area of the stock.

As for the wall side that is very bad, I will just clean it and leave it as is with no filler. It will not show anyway.

It's too bad but from what I've heard they come a whole lot worse. If I returned it I may get a bent barrel or something much worse.

Minwax makes a Wood hardener which will hardener that end up its just packed power right now.You may be able to get a glue injector to get the hardener way in deep if you drill a few holes to get the hardener up in side that butt.

I'm waiting on mine this week.
Made a deal with a Police Chief I know.
He buys two, I give him $100 for mine, and I restore both.
Thanks to Vern for the heads up.

Always looking for tips from those who have done it.
