getting permission for even a few people to detect somewhere can be difficult ... but when you have 175 people show up waving detectors the locals are sure to tweek. ... Even though this appears to be a case of fraud, it has put the public and political spotlight on these type of events.... only time will tell what effects this will have.

and read some of the vulgar perverted posted messages that is so common at that site? Kelley (Texas)

other site it won't paint a pretty picture for the hobby or anybody who swings a metal detector, they will bunch us all in that group :(

In my years of detecting I've seen that small groups that are polite, respectful, spend their money at the "mom & pop" restaurants and hotels in the community are usually treated quite well.... Many times the locals will be interested in the hobby and share contacts and possible sites to try.

But, I would think in most areas 175 detectorists invading a community would be right up there with a visit from the hells angels....
(especially if detecting is already a sore subject)

** Outsiders who read this should know that most participants in this hobby...
pride themselves on being honest individuals of high moral character ....
obtain permission from the land "owner" to detect...
they are respectful of the land they detect...
and strive to honor the property owner's beliefs and wishes.
