Hi
My name is Eugene aka Gabby and I'm a sorta newbie. I have done a little detection in the past.
I'm 50 semi retired tech-no geek.
If you have any electronic related questions I'd be happy to oblige.
I've just purchased the 2500 with the sun-ray probe and absolutely love the machine..
I like reading manuals if you can believe that.
I also love biking camping cooking and chess.
I repair mostly musical equipment...amps, mixers etc.
My specialty is restoring Tube equipment
Glad to be here and looking forward to a new hobby.

Welcome. You started off with a great post with the frequency chart and that great link. If you read my post titled Thursday 3 Hunts you'll see I was looking for this information yesterday.

The only gripe I can come up with is that my GTI is slightly too heavy. I find the cord provided for hip mounting the batteries too short to be really useful. That said, it is a tank and extremely durable so the good with the bad I suppose.

I look forward to seeing what you find. There is a ton of great info available here and 5 or 6 posters who I rely on for their know how.

Chris

I do have another gripe. I spent a lot of last season looking for a treasure chest large enough and sturdy enough to hold all the swag I scored with my Garretts. It was just awful!

If you didn't get the environmental cover when you bought your 2500 I suggest getting one. It will keep the buttons clear of dust and mud.

Yes it is a little heavy and with the sun ray probe even more so but i also really love the sun ray probe...it sure takes out all the guess work.

With the weight we are gonna have fore arms like Popeye by the end of the summer.

Thanx for the tip on the cover....I will order one.....where did u get yours?

Hey, welcome to the forum!!! I can't wait to see some of your finds!!!!:detecting:
Its a great hobby and a great forum!!!

Kellyco. I usually make a list of stuff I want or need or think I need and then order a few times a year. Last order was the environmental cover, scorcher coil, and a new book. They have a variety of scoops and digging tools and all sorts of accessories you might find interesting. I think the cover was 11 bucks. I just got it a few weeks ago. Has saved time on the after hunt cleanup for sure.

Kellycos shipping is around 10 bucks that's why I generally try to order several items at once. They usually include a coupon for a few bucks off your next purchase and they are alway real nice on the phone. Garrett is great to deal with directly too.

After a week or so with the 2500 your arm won't get tired at least that's how I found it. It is usually my feet, knees, and back asking me to stop.

Chris

I am not endorsing Kellyco over any other online detector store. I bought my 2500 at Metaldetector.com and my Ace 250 at another online store. In the case of the 2500 I was looking for the fastest shipping. Had I shopped around I could have waited a few days and gotten a cool goodie bag which contained the cover and some other helpful items.

Once again I write a thousand word post to answer a question where one word would work.

And we're glad to have you bud. We need all the smarts we can get on this forum to keep it a cut above the rest.Welcome aboard and may your 2500 reward you well. It's one helluva detector.

Bill

Yeah the Sun Ray is a great addition. I have a field test on the one for the 250 at the top of the page. You can actually detect shallow targets with the probe. Sun Ray claims a depth of three inches but if you whip the probe ( it is actualy a tiny motion detector ) over a target you can actually attain five inches.

Yes I did read your excellent review on the Sun-ray probe!!! Thanx

I also noticed exactly what you found, that by whipping the probe it become a very good detector.

I also noticed that the coil is not right at the tip but about an 1.5" back. Would you concur?

Thanx to everyone else here for their responses.

This is proving to be a great forum!!!

THANX AGAIN

Gabby

Actually the probe is hot 360 degrees around the shaft so if you have a coin stuck in the side of a hole you have to spiral the tip of the probe down the hole to get an accurate pinpoint. If you just stick the probe straight down in the hole you will get a signal but won't know where it is.
