Hey there, Mike Scott or maybe Mr Bill

I want to be able to hipmount my F5 for prospecting.

Can I get a 4 or 5 foot extention cable?

Or could I buy a coil with a 8' cord?

Or could I send my coil in and have a 8' cord put on it?

It would be much easier to use for prospecting if it was hipmounted because then I could rest my free hand on it and control the ground balance dial that way.

Let me know my options, please.

Thanks,

Mike

I am not aware of such. That doesn't mean that one couldn't just get a section of multi-strand cable & connectors, and make your own.

If your going to use it near the water, I would hard wire the extension to the existing cable, forgoing a potential leak in the connector.

Just my thoughts.

Myself, I would call the manufacture on this one. That cable carries RF (radio frequency), and the length is to keep the RF in phase, change the length and you may accidentally put the RF out of phase, canceling the signal to your control head, rending your detector into a metal stick. That said, you can buy the cables pre-made on most internet cable sites. As far as the water problem, you can seal with liquid electrical tape, it comes off fairly easy. I'm guessing you will be out the door for around $20 to $25 bucks.

I tried to make an extension cable for my Explorer and it was a collosul failure... I heard that Ralph at Sunray may be able to make extension cables, try to PM him.
