Man thats alot of coins with the 66 way to go.To answer your question the 1236 weighs in a little over the 3 pound mark .Its hip mountable but I've never noticed any weight difference doing that! the box weighs little. I believe it hip mounts to do water wading ?it is at the top for hunting iron sites with relative ease even with the silencer off it still is way quieter than a 1266.it want dig iron unless you want it to.Ive hunted behind the 1266 for civil war relics in peoples yards in down town and it is'nt deeper persay than a 1266 in open environs but in trashier spots is got more usable depth thus allowing me to dig relics the 1266 had missed because of masking and noise from the popping sounds.

Now to take it one step further if all I did was coin hunt the I.D. edge is the way to go especially in modern trash it almost pulls the coins out of the ground plus I believe its as deep as a 1266.it has a ground balance and phenomenal target seperation and nice modulated tones that allow depth perception.I use it in the nastiest of modern trash to pull relics and its always finding me coins to boot and tokens. actually I dig more tokens since the edge has been released than i have in 23 years of detecting. it also weighs in a little lighter at 2.75 pounds and is also hip-mountable.

But its you're call Steve there both great detectors the 1236 seems to find a little more when theres some nails masking a target but the edge seems to find more goodies in more adverse ground conditions and is way hotter on coins.its also hot on low conductors like the 1236 it basically boils down to target I.d. and ground conditions.

There both tops in my book

In your HOT ground how does the Edge do in Comparison to the moded Cibola? All around performance with conductivity and target taken into consideration.

Just curious.

For Steve: I have many many hours on both the 1236 and Edge and you can take what Keith posted about them to the bank. pun intended.

Thanks a lot guys - I do believe I will be getting a new detector in a year or so . I will surely consider these two. Appreciate it, Steve in so az

First and foremost we are not playing on a level field and imagine your ground conditions differ from mine...As far as I am concerned a 1266 properly used is one of the deepest units around and a 1236 or Edge cannot touch it for depth but it is noisy with it snap crackle and pops. I have to agree for general coinshooting a 1236 or edge wouls be my choice but if I traveled to extremely old places for deep coins or above all relic hunt where it shines a 1266 would be my choice....
