Hey! Let's Talk Headphones

I have Grey Ghost and Killer B's headphones. They work great. Problem is, I can't hear my Pro Pointer and there are times that I want to be able to hear some ambient noise around me. I don't like being in a total vacuum in certain areas. I've tried the one cup headphones, but they made my head feel like it was in a vise. Very uncomfortable!

I was thinking if anyone thought about making some headphones with 2 cups with just one speaker and drill a bunch of holes in the cup without the speaker so you can hear the ambient noise around you. I'd modify the headphones that I have now, BUT there are times that they come in handy. Like when I'm detecting near a roadway where there's heavy traffic. I'd like some with big cups. Apparently I have big ears.:)

I read on the forums about someone doing custom headphones at a reasonable price, but I don't remember where.

Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated.

At times when I'm not hunting DEEP and want to hear ambient noise while I'm hunting I use earbuds, another good choice is some open air headphones (ones with the foam pads that rest on your ear)

I think one of the md headphone manufacturers makes a pair of headphones that leaves one ear completely uncovered. Saw it on Kellyco at one point.

I have some of those light weight headphones, but the audio isn't all that great and the thin delicate cords on them are straight (not curled) are subject to breakage and are always in the way. Also, the cheap volume control slide on them are not all that great and are hard to adjust. Furthermore, my new tone Tesoro Golden

After reading that the single cup phones were a pain on the head plus I hunt alone quit a bit, here is what I did. Used an old pair of Garrett,s. Drilled multiple holes in the cup and speaker panel then placed a piece of thin material between the cup and speaker panel to keep any critters out. So far they have worked great and cheap. I can now hear my cellphone, my Propointer and anything else going on around me. I think I will take them apart again and drill additional or larger holes to see if that will make any difference. And you will have an extra speaker and volume control to use if the other one quits. Only took about 45 minutes to complete. Takes a little getting use to sound in just one ear. Now, have to decide if I am going to do the same to a more expensive pair.

That's a very good ideal. You would definitely hear the surrounding sounds a lot better.

Thanks

I stopped using my Grey Ghost head phones after I bought a pair of Koss P9 In-Ear Headphones with Volume Control for $9. Grey Ghost are excellent, but hot, hot, hot, in the summer and they block out to much surrounding noises.

Try the rattlers, I have a pair for desert hunting and I use the quite often, they are great. They only have one headphone. You might be surprised.
