I was like you-I went to an ID model and detected for a while because I wimped out on digging trash. Well, I felt a little energetic today, grabbed my trash apron and went to the local park. As luck would have it, they decided to renovate the tot lot, so I was forced to go to the trashy areas. Well, I chose the medians that separated the basketball courts since I had already searched the volleyball courts with my ID machine. Found coin after coin-Cici's pizza had their ads on a lot of the pennies. About the third median, I got a loud signal and it was the ring! Couldn't find any gold markings, only the Balfour name on the classring. I will gladly return it-the guy was #68 and our nose tackle, also a member of the National Honor Society, according to the markings on the ring. Well, a few feet further the thick necklace sang out-no silver markings. When I got back home, I checked it out on the ID machine-FOIL! I guess the Silver Umax is back in operation.:bouncy: The ring? FOIL!

Hi slingshot, not surprised at all you can never underestimate the ability of the Silver uMax. I have been detecting 25+ years and am still hoping to find a class ring. This has always been my goal, just to see the look on the persons face when you return it to them would be priceless. Steve.

Another example of why those that dig everything find the most jewelry. I confess to wearing out and skipping over foil/tab signals after digging up a lot of them.

I only disc. out a small nail and dig the rest. You all are going to think I am nuts saying this but I can't wait to dig up some pulltabs. The last detector I had (non Tesoro) was great on pennies/dimes/quarters/ but I hardly ever got any nickels and even fewer pulltabs. I know that if you are not digging nickels or pulltabs you are missing alot of jewelry. Steve.

slingshot, looks like you had a great hunt with the silver umax. those are some nice finds.......roger

Thanks, Roger. I found the last name -the only one in the phone book- and there was no answer. Have to wait till tomorrow. Can't wait to see the guys face when he gets his ring back. Yeah, Steve-that was another point I forgot to mention. I went over one area that I had been over with my ID machine and found two nickels with strong signals that had been overlooked. I had the other detector in the coins mode 'cause I was tired of diggin' tabs and both of them were rejected-should have left it in jewelry mode and bit the bullet. It takes a wake-up call sometimes to get back on track. Can't wait to get my 5.75" coil.
