I don't want this to come across wrong, but what is this forum for? I frequent several photo forums and all the others have a purpose. The PhotoSig forum is a great place to have people rate and critique your photos. The DPReview and Fred Miranda forums are essentially question and answer venues for a variety of specific photography topics. This forum doesn't seem to have a purpose and therefore I'm never quite sure how to reply, or sometimes even if I should reply at all.
Here comes the part where I'm going to sound like a jerk, but I sincerely mean it in a constructive fashion. Many of the photos in here (mine included) are extremely mediocre, at best. Most people do little more than simply post a picture. Yet, typical responses are the thumbs-up gif, or a simple comment like "nice photo" or "good job". Normally I don't respond as I really have no idea why most of the pictures get posted in here or what the person who posted them wants. They don't ask for advice and they don't offer any information. So even if I were inclined to give unwanted advice I'd risk looking foolish as I would be guessing on a whole lot of factors.
Here is my unsolicited two cents worth of advice:
1. Have everyone indicate the reason for posting a photo(s).
.....a. Are they seeking general opinions/advice on their photo(s)
.....b. Are they seeking specific opinions/advice on their photo(s)
.....c. Are they trying to share some aspect of the photo(s)
2. Provide as much information on the photo as possible
.....a. Equipment used
.....b. Camera settings
.....c. Light conditions
.....d. Goal of the photograph
3. Obviously all of the people in here have an interest in photography. Therefore, I for one would value their opinions/advice on my photos. I imagine that all of us want to get better with our photographs so I assume that others would welcome critique of their photos as well. I know that when I critique photographs it forces me to study the photo and think my way through it. I learn a lot this way. Clearly this needs to be done in a positive and encouraging manner. Of course I
