I just looked at and read a link you gave to someone......this one was Charles dead on setup? but anyways it is exactly what I have been observing myself...what a fluke! I have same settings as him and do exactly what he does......and I am just learnig about coins and such hitting out of normal.......wow what a weird thing......I guess if you keep plugging away .........only the meek shall inhearite the earth!.....Or coins.....lol as far as I am concerned.....if it looks like iron 100% it is....if it verys more than twice and is not locked to upper left......Dig it baby dig it! I must have passed over tons of good stuff and was lazy not to dig Iron..........oh well I am learning self taught.......but charles just confirmed it! Wow what a great Detector! and Hobby! the beach has been very good learning field for me...I have dug many good targets with maybe iron.....but target was off the upper tight left....I just dug cause it was an unusaul display and range of anything I have seen before. so no more being lazy...dig all that is not tight left and high!!.....Take care and thanks for link! :buds:

Glad you found it so useful. Yeah, it's the same with me...I pretty much arrived at those settings and technique myself too. I made some minor changes and haven't had a chance to get out with it yet. It's been SO hot the last two days. The beach is a great learning ground, as the digging is so easy. When I got my Sovereign Elite a couple years ago I hunted the beach with now meter for a month and learned the tones before ever mounting the meter...it was GREAT. There's a bit more to learn with the Explorer II, but it's true that it will hunt and hunt well right out of the box with a minor tweak or two. But the folks who really do well are the ones that learn to read the behavior you spoke of and take a few chances until they really get to know the machine. Happy hunting!
