Hey Jules...

But no, not yet.

I used the one I have today and am learning some good stuff...

I compared it with the E-TRAC. One instance that got my annention was the ET signalling a 12/14-45/46... a must dig. The V-3 had a hard time giving me a good signal and TID. I dug and found nothing... checked again with the ET... still a possible quarter... checked with the V-3... crap signal...

I got out the "tie breaker"... the Tejon... it told me right away that it was IRON.

So.... I am impressed with the V-3.

I did dig a lot of canslaw at another site with the V-3... all of it with the "analize screen" showing three unbroken lines, that looked good, blue on top, then red, green on the bottom. No broken humps...

I was looking for a gold ring... that was not as impressing, but I will learn.

Julien... or Jule.. never Jules

Did you finally dig the signal to see if it was in fact iron (only)? Could have been a silver coin right next to a piece of iron. Funny that the ET would give you a signal like that for a piece of iron. Did it repeat in more than one direction?

Hi there JB.....

I recommend that you take good note of Eric's advice re the Etrac's 12-46 signals.

The Jewel in the crown for the Minelab Etrac,is its ability to recognise a 'good' metal in the presence of a ferrous one.

I agree with Eric in his comment..........but unfortunately you don't seemed to have learned the golden lesson about your Minelab.

The idea that other machines signal a definite iron is OK..BUT-BUT-BUT.........they can't "Talk the talk" when iron is masking a non-ferrous target.

Here is the way to do it:-

In that particular case.

PINPOINTING the target will first locate the iron when using the Etrac.

Remove that iron target.

Now relocate where the 12-46 target is....and now you have the 'masked' item.

I'm not saying it will be the crown jewels, but it will in 97% of cases be a non-ferrous item.

Thanks to Erik for raising this most important point.............TheMarshall

I agree with Kurttam and Eric............When in doubt..........DIG. A lot of good targets are masked and some of them are great targets. That is why they are still in the ground, especially when the ground has been hunted before by others.

Awe, shucks.......sounds good, but just iron...................well maybe..............maybe NOT. If you are able, dig the maybe's.

I will go back with some water and wet it and dig it. I am pretty sure it is iron. The ET gave an occasional 25 and 0 on the ferrous side but that just made me thing there was some iron in the hole too.... then again, the ground was pretty clean so I think the Tejon was right, with the 5.75 coil it will usually at least chirp if there is something good with the iron.
