Hey John (TX) Long time no talk too. Got the 70

Ok now that I am retired when we going hunting. I have got things almost all done and I am fixing to go on one long vacation. I got to round up John Saldavar over in TX and go down to Galveston and do some hunting.
The last time I talked to Troy he was down to being Picky, Picky, Picky on the new machine. He didn't tell me when but you know how he is. That is about all I can tell you. When he is ready he will let me know.
I got my new X70 today and the box from UPS was tore up and mashed on both ends. Damn, I hate UPS. Most worthless package handling, well you know what I mean. Boy, Ronny Dugger was hot to and I mean P.O. UPS is supposed to contack me tomorrow and they want to see the box. You should see this box. I don't know if the detector is going to be ok or not. I got it put together and put the 5x10DD on. Have not taken it outside yet to try it out. If it don't hit my 8" dime I got buried on edge it will be a Gone Pecaun as we say down here in Cajun country.
Anyway I inspected the DD coil and I have two gaps in the sealing of the two halves of the coil. The 7KHX coil has about 5 voids in the sealer part on the bottom of the coil. So you better check out the concentric coils and the DD if you have them. If they have voids in them you better seal them up. Right now I know if the DD was to hit alittle water it would leak right in the cover halfs.
So I am going to take the coil cover off and seal it up like I sealed up my Joey coil and it has never leaked.
If you get the DD coil you are going to have to seal it up anyway. So pull the coil cover off, get you some red RTV I use the High temp kind just because I got some of it but the regular waterproof stuff is ok. Run a bead around the bottom inside edge of the coil cover and run a bead around the inside edge of the coil cover also. Make sure you got some squeeze out when you put the coil cover and the coil back together. I just spit on my finger and smooth it out all the way around the edges between the coil cover and the coil. Then run a bead around the edge of the coil cover and coil on the outside and smooth that out the same way. Also seal up the slots in the strain relief where the wire goes into the coil. I use the Joey coil on my EXPll most of the time, about 90% of the time. I had to seal all my Mine Lab coils so far. I don't know what they don't understand about inspecting for voids in the sealer. Coilteck is just as bad though. Well that is about it. I just got back from our coin club meeting and I sold some silver coins tonight and got some nice bucks for them. I came in and saw your post. Nice hearing from you. Later Bud and May All Your Days Be Filled With GOLD. :D :D Jerry Aka Tinfoil

I am waiting to see what you think of it being you have a X5 also. I used mine a bit, then sold it when someone wanted it and have a new one on the shelf right now waiting to go out, but now it may be going out on Saturday to a guy that wants to try it and chances are after he uses it he will buy it too.
I like what I see so far as I can hunt with a Threshold like I am used to, seems to be very sensitive to small target like the 30 and 50, but also rusty bottle caps fooled me too like my T-2 and the other X-Terra, but feel with experience that will change.
Been a lot of good reports on the XT-70 and seen a few selling theirs too as they thought it was going to be the wonder detector that cost less then the Explorer does.
You see what I have to put up with UPS and why I never use it and ask others not to send anything to me by UPS, but all my detectors and supplies comes that way and they now have learned to put it all in a bigger box and put padding with the original box in the middle, that way the box looks good inside.
Good luck Jerry and good luck on your retirement, waiting to hear how you feel about the XT-70.

Rick

Good to hear from you Jerry. Next time you're in Galveston, let me know and we'll hunt the beach. I haven't had any problems with UPS but my XT50 and 70 were packed inside a bigger box and were in good packing. Thanks for the tip on the coils, I hadn't noticed, but you are correct, it's not sealed that good, will seal them myself. I do like the way both 50 and 70 hunt but prefer the 70 because of the threshold, reminds me of the old Garretts. Got a friend in San Antonio that also has the 50/70/ExpII and he says the Exp is just a deeper machine in UNDISTURBED ground. Have been thinking about getting one but don't know if I'd like the extra weight. Please let us know how you like the 70 w/DD coil. Take care and hope you find lots more gold, I found a 14K gold ring yesterday, about a size 10. Later....John

Here's how a recent order arrived at my house. Note the useful, and now humorous "fragile" sticker was well heeded.

Another view. It's hard to figure out how they can pound a package this well. The USPS said it's always a good idea to take photos of damage as soon as it arrives to verify the extent of damage in case there is an issue. I was lucky, because there wasn't any damage, though I have NO idea why not. Apparently, UPS doesn't have the market cornered on damaged goods.

That I am not going to let anyone else ever have a package sent by UPS to me. I will tell them to Mail or ship FED X and I will pay the difference between the two. That is the last time I will every use :punch: UPS for anything.
UPS called me from New Orleans, what a joke that was, like they could do anything. They asked me about the package. Now I live in Lake Charles La so I asked her just what she was going to do about the package. She wanted to know if the detector was damaged. I told her not that I could see so far, that I have not even checked it out yet. Mine was smashed on both ends in the middle tore on the back side and tore up on one end. Anyway she started to apoligize and I cut her off short and told her the only people that need to appoligize are the people that mishandled the package and damaged it so bad and that I didn't need anything from UPS and that was the last thing I would ever get shipped to me using UPS. I am like this . Tell me what you are going to, what action you are going to take so this don't happen again and do what you say you are going to do or keep your mouth shut. Don't playcate me. :nono: I don't buy that crap for one minute. Just because you apoligize don't fix nothing. Fix the problem.:rage: The other thing was they delivered the detector at my front door and left it there where anybody could take it and I am out alot of damn money and a detector. It said plainly on the package to be picked up at the UPS Counter. My front door is not The UPS COUNTER. What a bunch of NITWITS. Yeah I really feel your pain to. I am not going to have that pain anymore. So UPS can :biteme: Later bud, Jerry aka Tinfoil
