Learn how to use light a little better.
When you turn the camera vertical you really should keep the light over the camera to get rid of that horrible side shadow. That is the first thing I learned. Photography 101.
I have about 6 extra flip brackets if you need one. I know you are retired now and probably don't have alot of money so I can contribute one if you'd like.
 
Which photo are you talking about?
And yes, I do have an old stroboframe. It's set up for my old Honeywell strobes which have since gone to the trash. Need to find the adpter for my Vivitar flash.
I don't like shadows any more than you do.
