Hey John-Edmonton have a question on 10x14" coil

... called kelyco and they said there will be no profiling on my 1350 if I use this coil, is that true:nerd:

Thanks in advance!

Here's been my experience with the 10"x14" coil. It Goes deeper then the stock coil and covers a large area faster. However, because its a DD coil, it doesn't profile well at all. It will read a coin size object as a small coin size object, but a 4 inch object will read as a small and/or medium object. I don't even use the profiling when I do use it. I think Kellyco were partially right in their advice. The coil works great on the beach, as you can get all the deeper signals that others might have missed. All DD's love bottle caps and they tend to read as good targets. You will dig lots of them. But, the large coil isn't shy on deep rings and coins either. If I hear that a beach has recently been hunted, that's a calling for me to go to work on it. As is usually the case, others removed most of the trash and some of the good targets, but NOT all of them. This makes hunting the beach a real treat! It's also great for hunting sports fields too, with the same scenarios!

I'll jump in on this and add to what John stated. The profiling is set up to work with concentric coils and not DD coils. The wiring configuration on DD coils is entirely different and is not conducive to profiling or imaging features. DD coils do not discriminate well and as John says, they love bottlecaps and other junk. I have a field test on this coil at losttreasure, com that might help you out a bit.

Thanks John and Willy for clearing that up:thumbup: Now I'm itching to get one:smoke:

BTW Willy, I read your review on the GTP1350 about the stock coil, you said

"The most noticeable aspect of the GTP 1350 was its stability and lack of false signals which occur on many detectors when the coil is bumped against roots, stubble grass or rocks. The new "Rhino Tough 7"x10" PROformance" elliptical epoxy coil that comes with the GTP performed as Garrett claimed it would and eliminated the need to continually check if a "beep" was really a target or simply a false signal."

Actually I've been experiencing some weird problems with my coil. Based on my observation, everytime I sweep and my coil brushes with the grass it does react to it and gives me a reading:thumbdown:. Its really annoying at times. I pretty sure it was reacting to the grass, but just to be sure I'll let you know again tom after my hunt.

... I used to do that when I was a kid in California. Man, I'd take a coupla puffs of that weed and :smoke:...well, er, ahem, nevermind about ME!

Maybe the falsing you are experiencing is due to your SENS notched up too high, or hunting in and around wet grass, or both. Bill has counseled any number of times and I concur with his sage advice (like that one, Bill?..."sage advice" ***) that starting around 5-6 on the SENS scale and working up from there is a good idea. The only person who can run his 1350 wide open all the time is Edmonton John, probably due to the ancient sea bed soils found in Alberta.

Another thing, if you havent already done it, is to tape/strap your cable to the lower rod so it cant be seen by the search coil. Yes, the 1350 can be that sensitive at higher gain settings. I use some of those Velcro(R) straps you get at the faabirc section of WalMart and elsewhere...

*** "sage advice" is what you give when you get really old. Up 'til then youre just a know-it-all.

Hmmm.... because I was experiencing that problem yesterday I did a reset on my MD so that put my sens. to the factory setting which I think is 9, I'll try to lower that this afternoon.

The grass was not that wet as far as I can remember. I followed John's advice on taping the cable on the lower rod already and that helped a lot!

Thanks again!!!

Yeah check that out.Could be something else. How high is your sensitivity and do you have the cable buttoned down so it doesn't move as you scan.
