heres where im at with it all grey, I estimate that ive coverd maybey 15 to 20 percent of the big field, the school yard surrounding the scool i havent coverd much, with xception of the play ground right next to the school.have pulld several newer coins out of that and a merc dime, my son found a 1900 morgan in exellent cond, i continue to be impressed with the way those old silver coins resist corrosion, when i spot a coin and its shiny its almost alwayes silver, unless it was already tarnished before it was dropped, regarding the settings you talked about on my post(awesome day!) ive been hunting with onley the 1st notch disc out since day one and i had the ses.set at 2, i did hunt at the 3 (highest setting for a while but getting too much chatter, but the 2 setting goes at least 6 to 7 down i think, any how a little hist. on this place if your interested, this school has been here over 70 years now . i know i said over 30 in a previous post but that was the existing prinipal who is retireing this year , any how this school has been a community meeting place for events almost since its been here they have an all rural school track meet here every spring thats held in the big feild that i found those rings and silver coins in yesterday, i decided to get more systematic with my hunts ive drawn grided maps of segmants of the field and i use kite string to make long 4 foot sections that way i dont walk of croocked snd miss ground and dont repeat so much , i think that is why i was so productive yesterday , any how that field im talking about is 150 yards deep and 300 yards wide and there is other smaller fields that were used in the past and then the yard surrounding the school, i estimate that i coverd about 30 or 40 sqaure yards yesterday , but the places i went are the places that i know people hung out at the yearley track meets, (i know this as i am the custodian of this school, been here 11 years and i work on the track meet day!) I also am reasonabley sure that this ground has probabley not been detected to much, it is kind of hidden to those outside the community, i dont think folks know about it if thier not from this area, any how thanks again for your advice and encouragement i do believe that while im still a rookie 2 or 3 months at it now, I can state with authority that im officialy hooked, and will do my best to honer this hobby ,sport , past time, or as im coming to see it more and more a passion, your posts on this site have inspired me , and its not just a hunt for riches ,its a hunt for history , i agree with all who say how exiting it is to see what your going to find next, and its good exersize , and so on!!!! and then how luckey are the folks like me ( rookies ) to have a site like this with such a wealth of experienced detectorist who are so willing to share. you just dont find that in all hobbies, sports ,or even the work place to much anymore, its a me me me world in so many ways, finaley ive got to say imsure glad i got to detect yesterday beacause today we have 6 inches of the white stuff and its not stopping, our usual spring storm, that turns everything green 1 lol any how good hunting to you and all scott charp OH ps does the ground moisture improve the debth that you can find coins? does the signal go deeper in wet ground? ty again
