I put the Excal on a balanced shaft for testing purposes and walked over to the park volleyball court (Sand) with Bia and tried it out. After my initial test run I dug 8 holes and made 12 cents. Later I tried burying jewelry but I couldn't read a 925 ring deeper than 8 inches. Overall I am pretty happy because it reads nickels REEEEAL good!
I have a military issued belt coming that I will use to hold the head unit. I'm looking at a climbers quick release hook (It's BIG) for use to hold the huge scoop. The hook is designed for one handed operation and is real easy.
The balanced shaft is something that needs huge improvement! For one, I blame KellyCo for parting it out when selling it. It doesn't come with a forearm strap! No one told me either. After I recieved the shaft without it, I called and asked for the strap and they said it's an additional $6. I asked them why they didn't sell the foam grip seperately as well. Anyway, There is no cam lock and the lower shaft wobbles when swinging it from side to side. Not to mention the upper shaft is two peices and uses pinch pins. I think I'll be heading to Ace Hardware for a fiberglass rake before I hit the surf!
