After the first or second time of trying to insert my then new land phones on my then new ATP, I used a little Dielectric grease on the O ring. It was far easier to switch phones then. So now I am wondering what is safe to use as a connection lube beside Dielectric grease. WD-40, Jig-A Loo, vaseline, powdered graphite for locks, Permatex anti sieze grease etc. ? I have all of these laying around. Is there any lube to specificly stay away from ? I suppose that researching that a lube doesn't eat O rings is a no brainer, but my other concern is that the tiny internal headphone connection wires do not corrode. I can't find my Dielectric that I grabbed specificly for the phones, but I seem to have everything else under the sun. Is anyone using something besides Dielectric ? If the Dielectric is the safe concensus I'll go get some more, but with half a dozen other lubes it seems redundant to me.

Garrett recommends you use a silicone based lube.Vaseline, a petroleum product will destroy the O ring. I don't know if Dielectric grease is safe or not?

Vaseline does indeed destroy O-rings like John said, I used some blue marine grease that I had laying around here for my outboard motor with no ill effects so far...A lot of guys mentioned to use the silicone grease made for hot tub/pool O rings, but I have neither, so I used what I had and so far so good.

Die-Electric/Silicone grease is the only product that will lubricate and create an airless environment at the same time to stop corrosion. None of the products you mentioned will do that and keep it that way.

WD 40 is good, but theirs not much lubricating properties and it doesn't last all that long. It's good for keeping things from getting stiff and cracking overtime like the coil and headphone wires.

Just my 2cents worth here on the plug-in subject.

:)

Diver's silicon gel. Any dive shop sells it.
