Hey Gang

A few weeks ago I tore up a the last 2 cigarettes in my pack and decided to have another go at quitting. I locked the GTI 2500 in the closet with my coffee pot and all the alcohol in the house and have limited my computer time to bare minimum. These are all activities I strongly associate with smoking. I went out on Columbus day for 2 hours and was pretty proud that I didn't even want a smoke. Found a cool sterling St. Christopher's medal of about 10 grams. Nice reward. This morning made it out for 4 hours at a new spot and found lots of modern coins ($11.72) a big junk hip hop "97" pendant, a soccer "letter" pin brass?, and a nice brass crucifix. I found the crucifix as I really craved a smoke. Might have been a message. I'm using the patch and switched to the medium size last night and I really noticed the difference and really wanted a smoke pretty much all day, still do.

I'll catch up on the board when I don't have these urges quite so bad.

I got my Loon Dollar prize in the mail, awhistler. Thanks! It's in the treasure chest.

Good luck, gang, can't wait to come back and see all the great finds.

Chris

I was off smokes for 8 months from late summer last year until March this year when a pal brought me 3 Monte Cristos from the DR. Smoked 3 cigars over a long snowy weekend and was back on ciggys a few weeks later. Nasty habit.

Good luck with the quiting smokes. It's a tough one to kick. Glad you got the coin OK. You can't beat finding treasure in the mail.

good luck on quitting nasty habit wish i had never started.after 29 years i wish i could quit it just isn't that easy.

I don't care whether I quit or not. My great grandmother smoked a corn cob pipe right up until she kicked off at 105. Course it would be a lot cheaper. Some good friends of mine quit a few years back and they figured so far they have saved $15,000. Trouble is if I quit I'd probably get fat. :) I gave up beer and boose years ago so I'm now at 180 - down from 220, and at one time weighed 250. Wasn't fat, just a big moose.

I am sticking 4 bucks a day in a jar toward my trip to Fla. in January. Should have hotel money at a minimum. Luckily I have a few relatives to ease that burden but I generally don't like to overstay my welcome so 2 nights is about my max there.

All in all, I would rather be smoking but I've hit the point where at least I'm no longer craving one every second of the day. Even went out and got good and drunk at a party Saturday Night and didn't have one. I felt like I had the next morning as every bone in my body ached like I had been MDing for 12 hours straight. I can't handle those all nighters anymore.

I have a lot reasons for quitting and the financial incentive looms large. I figure it costs me 2 grand a year to smoke.

Best,
Chris

When I was quitting after many year's of 2 packs a day , I used the patches which
helped , but the one thing I think really helped me most was taking a deep breath
every morning when I first got up. After a week or so without cigs I could do the deep
breath without coughing or wheezing ! When I smoked I usually coughed my butt off
for the first 20 minutes when I first got up. It's been 3 years now and It doesn't bother me at
all , in fact being around other smokers in confined area's is now very unpleasant.

good luck quitting !

Steve

I quit almost 20 years ago. Everyone who knew me said that if I could quit, anyone could. 3 packs a day sometimes.

I substituted pretzel rods for cigarettes. I gained 40 pounds. I have since lost some of that.

I'd rather die from a heart attack caused by being overweight than die from lung cancer.

You quit smoking when I started. Quitting has been a many year process for me as I go 4 or 5 months on 5 or 6 off. Best was 8 months off. I have failed miserably at least 5 or 6 times since 1999. Almost three weeks off so far this go around. The real worst of it is behind me now and hopefully in a few months I won't lie to myself and say one or two cigarettes on Saturday night can't hurt. I know where that path leads but I always seem to take it eventually.

Thanks for the encouragement. I need it.

Chris

Quitting smoking was without a doubt the toughest thing I have ever done..I used to smoke 3 packs a day..I also used the patches, but it all comes down to you "want to". You have to really to want to quit..It's been 11 years this November and there is not a day goes by that I don't think about bumming one from a co-worker..But I havn't, and I wont..I feel so much better and I'm saving a ton of money (do the math) Best of luck..Larry
