Simple question. It seems to be hard to get some honesty about depth haha. I know some people are adamant that their compadre might hit a quarter at 12 inches but I struggle with that. :). Is it safe to assume the Tejon is the current king of depth for a silver coin laying flat in a park all by itself in undisturbed mild soil? I think that covered the parameters lol. I'm not picking a fight, I just wonder what might be deepest for old coins in mild soil. And I'm just teasing the compadre guys. I own one myself. Thanks.

my compadre has a 5.75 coil and i have found a pull tab at 9.5" and thats the truth but most of the time 6" is max on coins and if thats not true you can come get my compadre from my cold dead hands :starwars::rofl:

Well I won't do that. If anything I might get another compadre with the smaller coil for my kid. Fun and easy machines.

Real world, Arkansas soil, ( I don't know how mild it is) I dug a nickel at a measured 8" with my vaquero. Dig an 8'" hole, it really seems deep.

My take on this touchy subject:

I am into park detecting and only 1 freshwater beach sometimes . The beach has of course no limits as to digging except by me so if I wanna dig a 13 inch hole in the sand. No biggie

But I always get a kick out of the first thing some guys compare is max depth . I would rather have unbelievable target separation and only dig clad and jewelry up to max 6 inches in parks anyway . I have no desire to dig 12 inches in the middle of a nice park , I figure there's more new clad than old silver these days so I really don't mind not digging to china.
So I am very happy with my $160 compadre ,I have found lots of jewery and clad , enough to pay for machine twice over plus .

I have found earrings too! Wanna borrow the compadre?

I am sorry, But 12" is hard for me to beleave. Maybe on an beer can. Like the other fellow said. I dont want to dig to China for a coin. It is hard for me to be on my kneese that long... I am not saying it cant happen, but hard to beleave... KEN, IND. I need to put Indiana behind my name. Too many KENs here. ( must be a good name ).

I have owned a Tejon like a lot of others here and in my ground here in Texas I could hit small 22 bullets at well over 10 inches took a while to find the little stinkers but as for as My Compadre I cannot get much more that 8 inches and that is with the 8 inch coil and as for as the 5.75 coin size targets are rare past 6 inches have 4 inch coil as well and have hit coins at 5 inches and sometimes 6 inches if the ground is wet it hits a lot harder. I love the Idea of being able to change coils on my compadre gives me a lot of versatility . Also had a Vaquero . which is up north somewhere now LOL my Mistake! but at one place I hunted in the woods I had a solid hit above the pulltab range supertuned and dug a token at well over 11 inches so I would say the Tejon and the Vaq are very close in Depth here in My Ground .

Yeah I assumed the Tejon and V were probably close. Thanks for the input.

And cladcanada, I hear what you are saying and I'm glad you got a kick out of my question, and were able to articulate your opinion.
I was really just asking a straight forward question about depth and mild soil.
I don't think it is a touchy subject; it's just a question about what Tesoro is deepest. Asking about how Tesoro compares to another brand is touchy but not this :).
I asked because I want to dig deep old targets in mild soil in areas that I believe are not trashy.
I understand target separation is important in certain situations, and how different coils and the particular disc circuitry on a Tesoro's can influence this.
I'm also aware of halo effect and coin orientation and ground moisture and etc etc can add to the mix.

As far as I know the Tejon and Compadre both have ED 180. I have a compadre and will soon have 2 actually :).
It might be Tejon time.
Just my take.
Thanks
Bob

A compadre for each hand , perfect :)

Could be a major mod soon?.?

I'd like to have one with sens adj , ground balance adj, And be able to swap out coils ( clean sweep ) etc with Ed 180'. That would be perfect

Have yet to try my new compadre. I did crank the sense up a bit but damn ground is solid right now. My buddy has a Troy X5 , i think thats what it is anyway, and he pulls rings from the fingers of little chinese girls! That machine is insane!

A pull tab and a Nickel or a man's gold ring will get more depth than that silver quarter with the Tejon.
The Tejon and the Vaquero are no the same on depth, well they are if you super tune the Vaquero but then it starts to lose its discrimination ability beyond about 6" so it starts to really like Iron. The Tejon gets the depth without the super tuning.

So, I'm going to say that the Compadre has never been know for depth, some of the other Tesoro's can get the depth if you go to all metal or super tune them, so if your wanting depth and running discrimination mode then I would say your best bet is the Tejon.

Just keep in mind that the higher frequency likes the lower conductors better than the higher ones, so you may get a tad more depth on a clad quarter than a silver quarter, but it may not be enough to tell, now the Nickel will be for sure deeper.

The problem here as cladcanada can attest to, is our modern clad in Canada us essentially made of junk metal. It's like discrimination is digressing. We need a 3D imaging X-ray machine. Perhaps someone can incorporate MRI technology in a machine. One day I am sure. But for now in Canada , beep and dig has benefits for sure. Instead of analyzing a TID for a minute per signal, I'm thinking just dig the darn thing.

yea just dig the darn thing. that will do it :goodnight:

Yep i dig everything at or above foil that hits solid in all directions

My Compadre matches my Silver umax in my ground. The signal isn't as loud, but smooth. So far, my deepest coin is about 6". Nickels and tabs give a stronger sound than clad. Strangely, the dime sounds stronger than a quarter on mine. Oh-hate to complicate things-but my name is Ken, too.

Kens love tesoros so I hear:rofl:

Just ordered my Compadre, cant wait to go parking with it :cheekkiss: ..lol Im sure it'll be love at first beep. :tesoro:

I see you drank all the cool~aid
