I use the double barrel HF tumbler. It has been great. After adjusting it to the manufacturers spec's, I haven't had a problem. It has 2 - 3lb tumblers and I think I got it on sale last year for 29.00 bucks! I posted the Item number a long time ago as I don't remember it.:garrett:

I've got two of the double barrel jobs and have replaced about a dozen of the crappy belts they use. It's the nature of that beast. I've got a big tumbling project coming up (friends coin collection from his burned down house, 5 gal. bucket full of toasty silver) and I'm going back to the Lortone tumblers, they really last.

Thanks guys

Ron, I'm also considering a tumbler and did a bit of research. Ran across an interesting comment by a cupple people who say all they do is rinse their clad to get the loose stuff off then put it in a plastic container (didn't say what kind) with vinegar and salt then shake for 15 minutes. Actually the 15 mins is the recommended time--they claim 2-3 mins does the trick. Doesn't get em sparkly, gleaming brand new clean but good enough for the banks. Might be worth a trial run with 4 or 5 coins. Save some bux if it works but doesn't sound like a good method for large volume cleaning. Pennies they didn't mention.

:usaflag:I bought mine on E bay. Brand name is Chicago Electric Tools. single-drum, 3lb. variety. Aquarium rocks, water and a gob of dish soap works fine on all of my clad. Well enough to pass through our bank's coin counter anyways.

I tried using vinegar with the clad and still got gas build-up...don't need it anyways.

You can solve that problem by picking up a bag of quarter-inch rubber bands and using them. They last longer than those cheapo belts and are cheaper than dirt. Been using them forever.

Tried out the salt/vinegar/shake method. Here's the before and after pics. Not exactly gleaming but big improvement over the original condition and certainly spendable. Actually, they look quite a bit better held in hand. These pix are blown up/magnified and not the way your eye would normally see them. Shook them in a small tupperware container for about 4 mins (not with my beer drinking hand)--used cup of vinegar and 3 teaspoons salt--just guessed at how much to use. Rinse well and pat dry afterwards otherwise they'll turn green and havta start over again. This method would work well for anyone who cleaned their clad after each hunt and didn't let everything pile up. For big jobs, well...that depends on how ambitious you are.

Here's the same method with pennies. Hadda shake em a full 10 minutes and scrub em down with rough side of a sponge. Not too bad given their original state. Still look spendable if not for the eaten away parts. The pits in the coins aren't cleaned out for the most part but not sure if a tumbler would do that either? Well anyway, there it is for what it's worth, Ron. Think it'll work for me. Thankfully, I don't have that many coins yet that need revamping.
