This may come as a surprise to those of you who do not live in Las Vegas, but there are more Catholic churches than casinos. Not surprisingly, when the collection basket is passed around, some worshippers at Sunday services tend to tithe with casino Chips rather than cash .

Since churches receive Chips from many different casinos, they have devised a method to turn the offerings into cash. The churches send all of the collected Chips to a nearby Franciscan Monastery for sorting. The Chips are then taken to the casino of origin and redeemed for cash and returned to the various churches.

This is done by the Chip Monks.
