Hey, Edmonton John, couple of things

First is it true Canada changed their coins to all steel? Maybe I'm dreaming, but seems I read that somewhere.

Second, say there is a all steel coin out there. Wouldn't a machine ignore it, if in discrimination mode?

Just wondering.

The coins are now nickle plate over steel. They tend to bounce around 60's to the mid 80's thus are pretty east to ID as coins. Once in the ground for a while, the nickle wears off and the coins start getting brown blisters of rust. The iron audio grunts on them. We got rid of our pennies in 2013, but there are still tons around and are still accepted at the banks.

I have read more then once, that the US mint is also considering going to nickle plate over steel to save money. I guess time will tell.
