I'd been out of town for a couple of days... just saw your post about Carol.
I'm 50 but I've been having colonoscopys since I was 40. Usually, you don't have them at that age but my father had colon cancer when he was in his 60's (ended up using an ostomy bag after having a large part of his colon removed) but he was fine after that and lived to 86. Because of the history, the doctor recommended earlier testing.
Finding polyps are not unusual. However when they do find them, they'll probably ask that she has another in a year. That happened to me. Now I just go every 2 years.
I want to urge EVERYBODY to go for the test. Too many people die from this form of cancer and there's no reason for it. Having been through it myself a number of times, I can tell you that it's absolutely nothing. Some stuff to clean you out the day before (that's the worst part of it) and the procedure the next day. I prefer to be knocked out but you can also take a local and even watch it on TV if you want.
No pain afterwards, no discomfort, just peace of mind. Let me tell you, that's a great feeling. Ask your doctor about it this week.
