The number on mine is 3892. Were there a certain batch of serial numbers that they had problems with ??? What was yours doing, At times mine gets a little more chatty and seems real sensitve to any bump at all now. Anyways just wondering if you found out the range of serial numbers that were defective.

No not really-I was getting a lot of chatter and it did not start till a few weeks ago--I could have gotten the 12 inch when J.W. replaced it but I stuck with the 14 because I know how good it is! The 14 is not the only thing I sent back -Had to return the DX1 as It had a broken wire making it immposible to use- On that I found they have Quit using the part straight part curly cord and now use a 30 inch round cord-No more curly cord just straight--no more kinks--------------DeathWind1

Hey Ray, I know the two 14 inchers I tested early this year were "bad out of the box". They were numbers 4433 and 4436. Indications given to me were that there was a wiring issue inside the coils. Apparently the manufacturer had reversed one of the windings in a batch of the coils making them shunt out in certain modes. If that were the case with yours, it would be acting up all the time. Sounds to me like maybe yours is a different issue since it seemed to work fine earlier. In either case, you and I both know that JW will stand behind the product. Hope the next one is as "HOT" as you indicate this one has been. HH

DW.
I did a little looking and the coil bolt was a little loose some how and there was a little play in the coil tightened the thing up and it seems fine. It still sounds off if bumped against anything hard. It seems to work fine in all 3 modes. I aint gonna send it back yet, As far as the chattering I am fairly sure it was just the area, Took the 5 inch coil out there today And it is super trashy with iron and foil, Not as much now I have found some super deep stuff with this big coil and think I'm gonna swing it til it starts majorly messing up. Dug several pennies a little over 4 inches out in my driveway this evening. The showed 6 inches but weren't that deep. Anyways thanks for them #'s. Did you say you sent one back that was in the 2200's ??? If so mines right in the middle. Hmmmm

I just received a 14" Excelerator Coil s/n 3212 for evaluation purposes.
* Its 14" Double D Pattern provided a very wide window of pick up.
* An Air Test in my front yard yielded about 5 1/2 Inches in the Discrimination Mode on a nickel.
* VERY susceptible to 60 cycle Interferrence.
* VERY heavy compared to other after market loops.
Detector Used was an MXT.

Greg,
What gain setting are you using ? Make sure when air testing the mxt you have the track set to lock. That is not a very good air test, I can hear a nickel well over a foot in the air. Try it in the dirt and see how it acts. Air test do offer some info. but give the dirt a shot before making an evaluation based on air test only. Also if there is an electrical interference close by it will effect your testing. Good luck and keep us posted.
