Yea, I've found the same characteristics as you did with the coin hitting in the iron zone on the screen!
I got a 1919 Merc at 8 inches the other day. It was by itself. I was using Conduct sounds and IM-13. That sucker was nulling out with intermittant bleeps at most angles. But there was one angle (8 o'clock) at which the signal became a three-syllable, broken at times, faint deedledee, deedleduh, deedledee, deedleduh. At that angle, the signal was hitting mostly left. I told my buddy Nelson that it was probably a small rusty iron object, but that I was digging it anyway because it sounded halfway decent at that angle. It was a silver dime.
Another time I got a 1909 Barber Quarter at 5.5 inches deep. The signal was very strong, loopy, 3 to 4 syllables, and hitting in the upper left all of the time. It didn't matter if I was looking at digital, or the plotting screen because they indicate the same measurements of (inductance, conductance). One screen just happens to be plotting the numbers. As a matter of fact, I decided first not to dig because of what the screens where telling me. But then I based my second decision to dig because the signal had a large percentage of sound getting past the IM-13 discrimination pattern. There was a large nail about 3 inches away from the coin.
Have a great day,
Mike
