could this be like mine I found ( see below post of mine )
Mine looked like it had something on each side that is now gone. What do you think?
Heres mine next to a picture I found on the internet when I did a search on the 503rd
Internet said 1861 to 1864

It might have been that variety!
 
Looks very close. The laurels appear to be a separte piece, and yours looks like you can tell where they were. If they were separte pieces, maybe there is more to be found at the site. I hope you have an original there. With a little more research you should be able to authenticate the piece.
