Hey Butch did they ever put the fire's out there ??

Small flair up's are expected for at least another month as the unidentified hot spots burn themselves out. The entire place will be off limits to hikers for at least another year.

Pam and I went to Woodland Park yesterday which was on the northwest side of the fire. The burn damage was pretty extensive near parts of highway 24. We took some pictures of the fire damage and I'll post them at a later date. The main damage area is east of hwy 24 and more towards Colorado Springs.

The fire crews did a remarkable job in halting the fire from jumping onto the west side of hwy 24. If that would have happened, the devistation would have been way more than it is now. So far, the damage has been estimated at $450 million dollars, making this fire the worst in Colorado history.....

There are more than enough public pictures of the damage to the homes for me to need to go up into that area and start snapping photos. I can't bring myself to do that, I'd rather take photos of the damage done to the wooded areas in the canyon and show that damage instead. However, it will be a very long time until they open up the area where that damage took place.

This is what is left of the Flying W. : http://www.gazette.com/articles/vogrin-141492-flying-w.html

He has talked about rebuilding but it is too early for that to be decided yet.

Some person took a hand full of the dirt and held it in his hand, poured water into it, and it just pooled in the ground dirt. The dirt would not absorb the water at all! It is going to take a good long time before nature starts to heal the damage that was wrought onto that area.
