Within the past couple weeks, on my laptop, I can't open the smilies to make a selection when I click on the icon for either the message box or subject line. What could cause that and how do I fix it?

Smilies icons work fine on my home PC and both office PC's.

Java and or windows update Ed, do you use it a lot the laptop?
If not turn it on and see if you have updates turned on and see if any message pops up to update
Do you see the smiley icon at the subject line?

Try clearing temporary files so it would re-download the java files again,
