HEY BILL LADD. A question

Hey Bill, Being from New England myself (Massachusetts) I really enjoy your posts, published articles, and videos. I was watching your episode on Saving History New England where you and your Buddy Rob, said that you where using your GPS's. I have never owned a GPS and am looking to get a quality affordable one, which one would you suggest. From what I have gathered from your video, Is that you often like to hike out into the middle of the woods with the security of your GPS to get you back to your car. I want to start just randomly venturing into the many woods in my areas and further investigate the stone walls in hopes that they lead to a house site. Can you share some of your techniques on your scouting methods to find new colonial sites.
Thanks so much in advance
Jason

I got it years ago from e-bay & it does not even have "mapping" like they all do today. Mine's more like a compass & just saves what they call "waypoints", or basically those are the numbers you save & then you can call it. "car" or something to get back to it after hiking. Or if you find a foundation you save & then name it so you can find it a second time.....
They have come down in price, so you only need to spend like $100. at like WalMart for a good one that will show you features, like ponds, streams, roads, etc......like Rob's. I need to upgrade mine, I just have been lazy as mine is loaded with close to 200 spots.......(& I know it like the backl of my hand & it's done me well for so long).
You have the right idea. Follow some old walls & see what happens....(but always GPS the car!) We forgot once & that's not fun :)
I filmed another deep woods epiosde I have to edit.....so be looking out for that.
good luck,
Bill

that the Garmin Etrrex is a very good GPS for the money. It actually comes with a program for the computer that you can input your coords or edit or just file them and upload or download. JMHO
