Hey BB have you got to test the 5x10DD HF coil yet

Not as much time at the ocean yet as I would have liked, but here's what I know so far.

1. A little less sensitive to smaller gold than the concentric HF(as expected).
2. Better in tougher ground & on black sand saltwater beaches as demonstrated by two behaviors.[A. Using the Auto GB function it will GB much quicker than the concentric HF.] [B. You can run sensitivity 2 to 3 points higher, which may equalize performance to the concentric in tougher ground.]
3. Better in trash because of the narrow pattern.
4. My only negative is that it is a closed coil design, so for wading it is buoyant. Yes you can put a sand filled sock on it, but for me this is just a major PITA, and hampers my "free flowing hunting style",(I can't believe I just said that ).

It is so light weight that you half expect it to start floating upward like a balloon. Good for getting in around the roots of trees on eroded banks.

The 5x10 DD is water resistant not waterproof, so if it leaks because you've tried to stick it in a foot or more of water, don't tell 'em what you did when you send it back.

I like hunting in shallow water, but I guess that's out with the X50. I guess I'll have to use my old trusty old CZ.---Wade

X70 Manual

Pg. 15 "The X-Terra 70 coil is waterproof. (Care of Your X-Terra 70, pg. 52)

Pg. 52 "The coil can be submerged in water up to 20

For the concentric coils not the DD 5x10 18.75. Or am I not reading the right coil. I sealed up my Joey coil 2 years ago on my Exp ll and I use it in the shallow water all the time and it has not leaked yet. I think I will seal this one up like I got my joey coil sealed. Oh BTW the (' 18.75 coil is a concentric coil right? Thanks, Jerry aka Tinfoil

The concentric coils are water proof period. The DD coil is water resistant. Now I asked if they were fimilar with the Joey coil and they said yes. I told her how I got my joey coil sealed up and she said I should not have any problem if it got wet or I submerged it. So I am going to seal the coil up with the coil cover on and seal the connector and see what happends. I know it is going to have a tendency to float but so does my joey coil and I submerg it all the time and It has never leaked yet. Anyway thanks. You are right Bill the Concentric coils are water proof. The 20" thing on page 52 means you don;t want to go lower then 20"s due to the contorl box is not even splash proof. Later and thanks Jerry aka Tinfoil

Hope you are doing good. Been using these new XTerras and have found them (50 and 70) to be quite deep. Later...John
