Hey all you Michigan detectorists!

There is a newbie in your midst!
My good friend Mike in Rockford just received his belated birthday gift - a garrett 250 ace. He and I have gone out a couple of times when I have visited him and he has been very interested in the hobby, but would never spend the $ on a detector himself.
He got his gift yesterday and called me last night with $1.44 he found in the back of his church (he is a pastor). I was as excited for him as he was.
He asked me to ask you (Michiganers) where some good spots would be to go. He really has no idea on local/State laws and such and is looking for some guidance on what areas would be ok, like school grounds, city parks and what-not. If you know of some specific places close to Rockford that you would not mind sharing, he would appreciate it.
Pete in Mi - I saw your group website and will be forwarding the link to him.
I have also told him about this forum and how great you all are. I am sure he will be checking in soon!
Anyway, thanks guys and God bless.

Im not sure where Rockford is,but you can go on the Michigan DNR website and download a list of all the state parks that you can detect in-and the ones you have to stay out of...A CHURCH;DID YA SAY??:clap:If its old;no tellin what he will find-Good luck to ya,guy...:clap:

close to the Southwest Michigan Seek and Search Club. He should check with the members as one might live nearby. Mike from MI might even know since he is club president.

A good place to look for info on where to detect can be found on the club website: http://www.swmss.org

They have a link to DNR State Parks and their rules as well as a link to MI county parks.

Local libraries is a great place to start as is checking the internet for the local parks and recreation department. The local parks department usually has the policies for detecting on their website. This will give him an idea where all the parks are. He should get a good map too of the area. Check the net for the local school district. It has a website telling of not only the schools he can detect on but when the schools are closed for teacher training or holidays so he can have an opportunity to hit the schools during the day on a weekday when they are closed.

That should give him a good start. Wishing him loads of success and hope to see him posting his finds here soon. I'm still interested in how well the ACE 250 performs. (Guess it is like my Garrett GTAx 1250 - but lighter, newer and takes fewer batteries. I'm guessing it goes deeper than my 1250 since new technology is in it.)

We have members in our club near him. I bet they could share a ride to a meeting? I am president of the same club that Pete belongs too.
Greg is a member also. Also if you get to his place again, we will have to get together for a hunt! :)
