Hey All, Got a Question

Got out to the beach over the weekend ( daughters birthday gift ) Got to do a little tecting. Running the MXT and 14 inch excellerator coil. Ran relic mode, 0 disc. trigger forward, ground set on track, threshold just under sound and gain on +1. Now the question, Several times I would get a good hit vdi #'s 85-89. I would dig the recheck . Get another good beep dig a little more than get no beep, Check the pile of sand I had dug and nothing, Got the pin pointer out and probe a little deeper and pull out a quarter. Why would the quarter sound off with a foot of sand over it but not sound off with most of the sand removed ? Anyone else had this happen. Found one nice silver ring with a turquiose stone in the wet sand, had to drop the gain a bit in the wet stuff. Been a while without detecting, due largely to work and moving over the summer. Trip to the beach reminded me of how much I have missed swining that detector. Detected alot at nite which makes you rely on the beeps with no visual ID and them beeps can tell ya a lot if ya listen to'em. Just wondering how the new whites 14 inch coil is doing compared to the excellerator ?? Read a few post and see some are having problems with these coils being faulty, Wonder if they'll get a bashing bad as the excellerators did ???? Ha Ha Ha .
Hope all are well and out diggin up some goodies !!

You disturbed the soil matrix, not sure that happens in sand. HH

Same thing will happen with a Sov with a 15 inch WOT.
I think the coin will turn on it's edge when digging.
I dig a bit more and then flaten the dug out sand with my foot, that usually is enough to make the coin lay flat a sound off again.

Another possibility is that the scoop hit the coin and pushed it down deeper. Just my theories. I'm not an MXT user, but do beach hunt and have had this happen, also.
Hope this is of some help to you.
HH and congrats on the silver ring!

Thanx All
After this happened a few times I dug a hole 8-9 inches deep and dropped a coin in the hole, got no signal at all, yet have dug pennies at a foot deep and found a bunch of quarters 18-20 inches deep in the sand at A.C New Jersey. Just kinda weird. Thanx for the input. Also the ring I found has 925 which I know has something to do with the purity of the silver but then it has CFJ stamped beside the 925, any ideas ??

9.25 is the standard for sterling silver. Pure silver is 9.95 and up

925 means 92.5% silver, also called sterling silver. The letters are the maker.
