Here's the chain I found last week....

Cleaned out the connections on the ExpII with some contact cleaner; used a little superfine sandpaper... Ran at 27 and it was pretty dang stable. Can't remember ever running this good. Found 2 junk earrings, some really (sick) deep clad and this... 10k chain 18" + and the cross is 14K. Not that much weight, but it's gold :) Come the winter, I'm going to have to send this puppy in for a checkup... something's not right. When I found this chain it was running great; next time out it was falsing all over the plalce. We'll see...

that's a great find Joe ! It looks pretty heavy. Dont think I have ever found both together. Probably on land the chain breaks and the cross falls. In the water the whole shebang falls away. Thanks for the pic - keeps us hoping, Steve in so az

when I had a lot of falsing on one of my old detectors I found it to be a crack in the coil casing - the wet grass got water into the coil. Worked great when it was dry by went nuts after it was in the wet grass for a short time. Other thing that caused falsing was a loose cable at the coil end. Added a velcro tape around the cable and shaft and voila no more cable jarring causing the falsing.

Just something to think about Joe.

how cool is it that we can find things like that with our savior on them!

No coil cover Mike... Actually, I epoxyed the bottom of the stock coil to eliminate the coil cover. This is definitely a connection problem (where the cable connects to the machine). Sometimes when I unplug and then plug back in the coil, the problem goes away (for a little bit)

Thanks Pete, but it happens on all 3 coils I have. As far as holding down the cable, I've tried it all... :) Used tape, velcro, electric ties... :)

The pic makes it look heavier than it really it :)

This chain is so long, it probably just slipped off the person's neck. I'm sure this happens when people body surf. (found it at the high tide mark; fresh drop, not that deep)

just kinda threw it in in case others with less experience may one day run across the same problem. Glad you are geting out. The girls here say Hi to you and Vicki.

Perhaps if you can, look at the solder connections on both connectors. You may have a cold solder joint if it always seems to fix or change when you reseat the connector. Just a thought!

Actually, not too many people think of the connection. Doc from Vegas was the first to suggest that. I even tried some carbon conductive grease (which I thought helped...) but Ralph at Sunray said it wasn't necessary. I felt bad 'cause when I sent my x-1 to get repaired, the black stuff really messed him up; got all over his testing equipment :( Well, I've since cleaned it up. Come the winter I'll send it to ML and see if they find anything.

Well, say hello to your ladies for me! Oh, and here's one of my favorite pics from the forum hunt :)
