Heres my take on beach hunting with three different detectors, Excalibur, CZ-20, and Sovereign Elite. I'm using all three right now in Florida.

I have all three detectors down here with me.
I've used the Sovereign Elite several times so far, and am well pleased with it. It's a bit more awkward with the bagmount and digital meter, but it does a great job of finding and sorting out targets.Only drawback is it isn't waterproof.
The excalibur does its usual fine job, giving me great big wide signals, and depth. No problems.
I have only recently gotten back to using my CZ-20. I got away from it after buying the Excal a couple of years ago, but this is still one GREAT machine.
I will say that it takes a couple of minutes to get my "ear" back when I switch to the CZ, because the signal is a lot more clipped and sharp. But it goes just as deep as the other two.
Plus,I can crack walnuts with it (NO, not really, but its a tough unit, very dependable)
I think Fishers is crazy for no longer making this machine. One of the best water units around.
I gotta think they are planning a major new machine coming out, possibly this spring.
It doesn't make any sense otherwise.
So,for all you newbies out there, who ultimately want to know "which water machine is best", I just told you.
BUT, theres a lot of other equally excellent ones that I haven't had the opportunity to try .......YET.
Happy hunting, and DOUG, Get to WORK!!!!!

I've had good luck with my CZ6a on wet salt sand, goes deep and it's cheaper than the CZ20. You're right, doesn't make sense why Fisher stopped producing the CZ's, something has got to be in the works. John

I'll be the white haired guy down on the beach swinging away.
I wish you could come down, this is a nice park, theres fishing, great cookouts and saturday morning breakfasts, treat you great here.:detecting:
We gonna try Michigan again sometime?? I don't hit posts anymore.
(crossing fingers)!!

I'd like to buy a brand new Waterproof Fisher in the near future.
Are you listening Fisher??
To be honest, they would need to work on that skinny signal, make it broader, like the Excal has.
If you go over a coin with the Fisher, you get a quick beep, and thats it.
With the Excal, the signal is a foot wide darn near, much easier for the ear to lock in on.

I start working full time tomorrow for about a 5 - 6 month job.

I retired as an instrument engineer and have a chance to work as a contract engineer doing the same kind of work I did when I retired. They expect to work to last through about June.

The extra income will be greatly appreciated but it will sure put the skids to any long vacations for a while.

Keep in touch and maybe we can still join you for a three day weekend at one of our Michigan beaches.
