i was huntin the grounds where the city is doing road work and tearing up the old street. found a winged pin a couple of inches down in the dirt they dug up. there was a radio show in the 30s-40s era that was hosted by a man named Jimmie Allen. it was a show about air force, pilots planes etc. Kids who listened to the show could send in for these winged pins as part of Jimmies fan club. The club was called. The Flying Cadets.Richfield Oil Co. sponsered the show. The pins were orignally brass plated in gold. .

That's really neat.

Brings back memories of when I was a kid.

No one had a TV.

The first one I ever saw, I watched it for a

little while and could not see what all the

fuss was about.

It was only later I discovered that you have

to turn it on to watch it.

HH,

 thats funny...i was born in the 70's so i dont remember the first. although i remember trying to talk my dad into buying a vcr. we had one tv it was a huge consol one. i had my atari hooked up to it and i remeber my parents wanting to watch the news and making me shut it off. level 60 on defender...i cried...

Dobbie,
Here is a pic of a set of wings from another radio club(HOWIE WING--CADET) and real ones(US NAVY).Those old radio premiums are a kick to find.

Thanks Waterbug for the info on the old time kids shows on radio. I used to listen to Bobby Benson and the b bar b riders. I used to listen to the show on my own 5 tube plastic radio. Not one person I asked about this show knew what I was talking about. Just forgot about it until this morning while reading you post. There it was. Thanks again. Jer

This internet is something else.Just go to a search engine and type in anything you can think of and there is tons of info comes up.
