Here's a view of Folley Beach (just south & across the bay from Charleston) that you don't see every day...

It's a low arial shot taken above the old abandoned light house. You can see how churned up and dangerous the tide is going in and out of the bay. The deep boat channel can be seen in the distance running right along the beach. Metal detecting at the edge of the beach can be hazardous as sometimes whole sections up to 4 feet wide will just break off into the current right under your feet!

Most of the surfing in South Carolina is done on the seaward side of the beach.

You can walk out to the lighthouse from the other side of the channel when there's a real low tide.
