Here's a story from last summer.

This is what the winter time is for,,right?? ( a story??)lol

I got permission to detect a old farmhouse last summer. I didn't know the owner but she said ,,have fun, and all she wanted was to know what was found.
Me with the Ace 250 and a friend with the 2500. Get there ,first sight and it looks great. Very large side yard and back yard, rock foundation house with a small front yard.
I bee line for the front yard,,as always.lol We started digging wheats immediately ,as I got to the middle of the front yard I found a 1859 Canadian Penny. As I got closer to the, front side, of the front yard. The 250 started going berserk from interferance but even with this happening I got a signal. Very hard to tell but I dug it,,was a 1910 Barber Half.
After that I could not detect about half of the front yard because of this interference. Not even at 1 bar. I had my friend come over and try changing freqs on the 2500 with zero luck, he could not detect it either.
We detected this place several times after that and determined after much study that their is a electric dog fence on the perimeter . And cannot be detected with in 15-20 ft of this fence. Problem is,,that is half of the front yard. It is not very big. I know there are more coins just sitting there.lol
This was not a problem for the most of the other areas ,,,as they were wide open. We never found another silver coin or old copper. But we did find some where in the area of 100 wheats between the 2 of us . Im still surprised ,all them wheats and not ONE silver dime or quarter.
All n all it was pretty good ,,,,,,but I often think of what could be in the section of that front yard that cannot be detected.

Has anyone else had a problem with this??(electric/invisible dog fence)

Never had a dog fence problem. Would there have been anyway you could turn it off while you were hunting that yard ?
I was in a pasture detecting once and had bad interference from cattle electric fence.
This was more like a pulse signal that sounded from the detector. Very annoying !

Yeah if the dog isn't out the lady might agree to turn off the juice for a while.

It always leads to make you think WHAT IF? Maybe you can go back some day and the fence won't be there. I never been around a electric dog fence, but know about dem dare cattle fence

Ask the fence owner to switch it off for a few hours. Bring them some candy or doughnuts as a treat when you ask. I bet they'd do it. Good story!

Chris

I agree. It's a very simple request that they would probably grant. And an opportunity to find some more good targets when you already have your foot in the door? I would'nt hesitate to ask.

Thanks for the responses.
It did cross our minds to ask her to turn it off but we choose not to. Very nice lady and Im pretty sure she would have done it for us but ,,umm,, I guess we just didnt want to ask anything more. She had 2 small dogs ,,with a doggie door to the house. So they had free run to come in and out whenever they wanted.
Someone in the future might detect that yard when the fence is off.lol They will be scratching their head saying,,"Hmmm?? Why old coins only in this area??"
