Uh, I meant to say "knotty" photo. This is a picture of my on-going firewood project for next year. I've gone and looked at wood that these wood butchers are selling, and I'm not impressed. Its a mixture of wood that has a lot of pine and poplar in it, plus they cut their wood too short (12'14" long). I like my wood to be about 18" long for the fireplace. I know they cut it short to fit into most small burning wood stoves. So I've been in the woods several times this week, cutting up some fresh oak and hickory that had fallen in wind storms last summer.
Is that the neatest stacked woodpile you ever saw in your life? I'm going for optimum drying for next winter, allowing the air to circulate freely through the wood. I'm splitting it with a maul; the oak's pretty easy, but that hickory is a killer. I also have this much maple up at the house, stacked under the porch from the tree that came down a month ago.
Things looked a little slow on the forum, so I thought I'd get a little knotty.
