This model has the following features:

1. Cheap to make out of common materials.
2. Self rights.
3. Top screen is 1/2" square metal cloth angled 45 deg down for better sifting action & target ends up at bottom of the slope.
4. Bottom screen is 1/4" square metal cloth to catch .22cal cartridges, chains, small pendants & other small Sh** that just makes you crazy w/ a scoop.
5. Hole cut in side to access the lower screen.
6. Can be used wading from boat on sandbars, or walk-in carried by handle from shore.
7 For dry/damp sand work, just cut the wire ties that hold the bottom screen and use top screen only, otherwise bottom screen fills and clogs. I use a handheld probe on shore for stuff that gets thru sifter.
8. I have a 6' tether that keeps the sifter floating near me and perfect distance when I lift shovel handle to dump it.
9. This model is very easy to clear if filled with leaves, bark, grass etc., easy to break up clay and not lose target.

Enjoy!

That is some creative engineering! I think it's really cool that you don't let toddlers mess around in your bucket too!

foam noodles for a sifter. I would forgo the bucket and simply zip tie some hardware cloth to the noodle. As you move it along it would eventually sift out the sand and silt leaving only the bigger stuff. Wouldn't work in those areas like you have with the rotting vegetation and wood pieces tho.
