I picked these up from ebay...2 for about $7 shipped. They work, but the wires are very thin and would break the 1st time out detecting.

First thing I did was hot glue the components and loose wires. Then I found some nice flexible plastic to encase them. I used a sharpie to make outlines and then cut the plastic with scissors.

My daughter colored and watched me work ;-)

I cut the tie wraps holding the Pp shaft in place and glued the shaft down.

I cut thin strips of plastic to support the side pieces...glued them to the board (just high enough to clear the components).....they also served as more contact points to glue to.

I cut strips for the sides too and glued them in place...the side with the dial required a dremel for the dial and red led (just drill hole for led)..filled hole with glue after side was in place

then I made a box for the 9v...could have bought one, but just decided to make one.

I cut and placed furniture felt pads (floor protectors) in the 9v housing to hold the battery securely.

instead of making side for the pinpointer shaft I just filled the sides and tip with glue. I used a sander on the dremel to smooth out all the glue......

Then I scotch taped over the dial and led ...then painted it.......

Not bad, a good tool to carry along, can't beat it for $4. Looks like a good time was had by all.
