I bought a quantum 11 in the spring of 2000.I did the usual thing and hit the local school yards and parks.

This detector didn't have the best discrimination,( it probably would have been better if I knew more about it) so I dug a lot of junk . Just abut July or August when the ground was hard as a rock, I was about to give up this hot and tiring hobby.

I came across the ol whites site and found a bunch of weird people that loved this hobby. After lurking a while I joined in.I learned a little more about the hobby and found most of the good finds were in yards of old homes. In Nov. I sold blinds to a lady that owned a house from the late 1800"s. I asked, she said yes, and I was on my way.

My very first find was a minie ball, a couple Indian heads and with in a hour I uncovered this gold coin.( I do believe I was more excited about finding the minie ball as I was the coin)

The coin is a twenty franc. Probably brought back from France after WW1.

The Don's have hunted there several times and have found civil war era coins and minie balls.

I have just about hunted out that neighborhood.

Someone at Jeff Davis's wedding party dropped this penny 170 years ago. The photo is not very good... but the date is 1828.

This house is a couple blocks from the one I found the gold coin. It had a historical marker in front so I was hesitant about asking to detected it. The man answered the door, and said sure go ahead and look around.I found out later they were getting a divorce, so he didn't care.

I found some other nice things there,, but,, the penny made my day.

Can't get better provenance than that. I think I'd document that one.
