here is something i posted long time ago ..lets try again?

It is a Silver round...... worth it's weight in silver. It could have been a souvenir from Bombay but just about anything is stamped on a silver round to help them sell. If it is about the size of a half dollar it is worth about $17 right now.......... 1/2 ounce.

Have you weighed it? It looks closer to the size of a quarter. Another forum post suggested this......

Its not a coin but rather a silver round/charm.
The obverse has Hindu Goddess Laxmi on left and Ganesh at right.

Here is a product for sale with the coin included http://www.giftwithlove.com/images/diwali00011.jpg

I believe the reverse says 'Hindu goddess Lakshmi' to some extent, I can't read it but I have only found one coin(gold) that has that design on the back. I founds tons that are similar but not quite the same. The part directly under "BAY" has a pointed peak. Most search results I found have a rounded loop probably depicting 'Ganesh'. Heres the link to the only result I found with the correct reverse design, minus the extra floral, ect. http://forthearchives.wordpress.com/2011/10/24/when-the-goddess-washes-up-at-your-feet/

I stand corrected, the ad says it is silver plated and then further down it says it is German silver. German silver (Nickel Silver) contains no silver at all, the usual formulation is 60% copper, 20% nickel and 20% zinc. So to answer your question, it is a promotional token.

I cant say its plated for sure, But the free gift coins look the same and they say plated. I cant see the pics good enough to tell if they have '999' on them, an indicator of 'pure'. Although, I see lots of newer stuff on tv and ebay that say 999 and then the seller slyly, yes its a word, says its 'pure 999 plate'. I hate those selling tactics.

As a side note, Have you noticed it is surrounded with swastikas? Interesting and so tiny. I found one on cointalk that has a huge one on the reverse and 'similar' but not exact obverse. http://www.cointalk.com/t42709/

good imfo 5 grams size jus like a quarter (quarter is 5.7) so a bit lighter than 25c i gave it a scrach and no color change or flakes came of it .. like u would bet with plated stuff

I'm a firm believer that if a coin says either 999 or 925 it better be silver. I found so many variations to that coin and MOST said pure silver. I only suggested the links to the 'free gift' ones because they fit the pic the most. What narrowed it down the most was that yours has what looks the be waves of water and a (fish?) on the obverse, most results were of half waves/half (bricks?). But the design is used over and over again so I would lean towards 999 pure silver. And they make that in 5 grams, so it fits.
