.... called Brylcream. John Mina, is a foot doctor, a Rotary friend of mine and metal detecting buddy. We even went to the UK detecting together one time. John also writes science fiction books. I don't think John regularly sings with the group anymore but still writes and produces songs for them.
Back in 1993, we decided to host a company barbeque for all employees and spouses plus a few neighbors. It was my birthday but the employees did not know that. The perky Nancy arranged for Brylcream to ring the front door bell about 1 hour into the barbeque. We were all out on the lanai (big screened in enclosure around the obligatory Florida swimming pool) with the triple slider doors open into our living room.
I answered the door and as soon as I opened it Brylcream started singing their do-wop songs acappella (Elson, that means without musical instruments as background) and do-wop danced to the sliding glass door track. Then they proceded to put on a 45 minute show. The neighbors across the canal from us heard them and sat on their canal seawalls and docks cheering and clapping after each song. Me and our employees (and neighbors) were so surprised and really enjoyed the show. That was the best birthday I ever had.
Here are two of their numbers. My friend John Mina is pictured in the bottom "Blue Moon" photo leaning against the cars front left fender.

A couple years later Nancy and I were having dinner out at a very nice sea food restaurant with one of my major vendors. We heard Brylcream start to sing in the dining room. We were seated on the outdoor patio. John saw us and brought the group over to our table and had Brylcream sing about four songs to Nancy. Wow was that vendor impressed.
