Here is how I remove my Excel Batteries easily

I have been having problems getting the cells out without using some sort of tool. I am sure there must be smaller batteries out there but it seems all I have used fit very tight.

I used some thread and made a loop to slip over each cell and then slide in place.

Simply tuck excess thread in behind the battery when closing the battery compartment door.

Anyone else have any methods or know of any smaller sized 9volt cells which glide right out?

Thanks

Tony

Man those batteries area a tight fit! I learned my lesson a long time ago on the battery fit with that style case on a 1236 and now stick exclusively to Energizers.

How's the Excel doing for you down there in gator country?

Tom,

Glad I am not alone with the tight battery fit. I will look into energizers next go round.

The Excel is HOT very hot in this area. It is FAST and effortlessly DEEP with no desire for iron at all.

Cant say enough about this one.

i just got an excel, and put a set of 'cheapie' no name brand ($2) batteries in..a bit tight going in, i thought..then i tried to get them out :) .. what a nightmare! i used a butterknife and i was really starting to get exasperated,so i thought i,d better take it to a local detector shop, which is run by a friend of mine...we ended up having to drill into the bottom of the batts and screwing in a screw to pull them out, what an experience! well,i found out a very quick lesson..only use 'brand name' batts, eg energiser, everready and duracell, which have no problems..but there is a caveat..even some brand name batteries stray from the 'standard size,ie are 'fatter than they should be!..funny how such a good machine can be let down by a short sighted design flaw(i mean, surely, how hard would it have been to make the battery compartment just a little bigger?? :) )...

Too loose and they will flop around and make the user crazy, and possibly wear the plating off of the internal battery contacts. This could lead to intermittents caused by corrosion or voltage drops leading to major machine mal-functions. You can try Home Depot, I think they had the best deal on big packs of brand name 9V's. I hitch up the team and go twice a year buying large quantities.;)

I have heard a lot of stories about Fischer's getting batteries stuck, after they warm up and swell, thats why I only use Energiser's. Ron

I just bought a 6-pack for $9.74 + tax. That's actually up a bit, as the last pack I bought was about $9.50-ish for the 6-pack with tax.

I've had issues with slightly over-sized batt's in my CZ-5. I've also had some NiMH 9v's swell on me, inside the battery compartment, so be careful with what you use.

I just got a NiMH recharger for the AA's for my digital camera. I might get a set of 9v NiHM's and see how they hold up in my CZ-5, now that the name brands are making NiHM's.

Just make sure you get the "true" 9.6volt models and you'll have no problems. I've been using mine for over 3 years.
