I could go on for an hour about how great my Explorer is. But there is one defect, and that would be the external speaker. It is just not loud enough for my ears. For someone like me, I have been deaf in my right ear my whole life, headphones are an absolute must-have. But on those hotter summer days or when I am in one of my brushy hunting spots, the headphones become a bit of a nuisance. My question (finally ), is there a (bigger) external speaker on the market that you could plug into the 1/4" jack ? And the bigger question, would they reduce battery usage like headphones do?

I can't think of one offhand, but I bet if you met with an audiologist he/she could probably let you pick one right out of a catalogue.

Yep, they have them. I've seen some of the Aussies with them. It has a cord and is worn on the shoulder. A speaker is a speaker so I can't see a battery savings.

Ive had battery powered speakers with 1/8" plug for computers, thats what I would try., adapted with a quarter inch plug- couldn't you plug that into the earphone jack. and use a strap or fanny pack for it, etc CO

These clip on to your shirt Dave, sort out a 1/4 inch adapter and your good to go.

I don't think they would reduce battery useage.
