I am a confirmed Minelab person, but have been addicted to the Sovereigns for years. Tried an Explorer XS in the past, but it was just too much, too big a learning curve. Sold it and went back the comfort of my Sov's. Well, I decided to try to break out again, maybe a Safari, because it should be easier to learn, right? But one of your brave souls, one Ron in MI, held a gun to my head, and convinced me to try the Explorer again. I allowed him to use his dulcet tones to convince me, and now I have ordered a used Explorer II. I will try it in the basic set-up and hope that it is, in that seting, at least the equal of my Sov, and hopefully better. I used to hunt Civil War, but most of that has dried up in my neck of the Louisiana woods, so I am going coin shooting. My best so far is a 1944 Wheatie, and I'm pleased -it was a foot down and my Sov scored it.
Looking forward to improving my hunting with the EX II. Wish me luck...

Sounds like you have a great handle on the Sov what do you hope to gain from the Explorer? Centainly not depth if you are digging that deep. If you are used to just a tone machine you may be disappointed with a TID machine trying to tell you something you isnt correct. Im certain that several of the Explorer users are walking over deep items because they have too much faith in the display. But, who knows what depth you might get from an Explorer.

The Sovereign is a great detector and is deep I still use one.Give the Explorer a week or two to find out why so many hunter's like this detector. The Explorer gives the user a lot of information once learned. My favorite old park where I hunt most of the time usually yields a silver coin, but with the Explorer three old silver coins and Indian Heads in the same place I just hunted. The draw back for me the Explorer gets a little heavy with the 10 inch after four hours of hunting.I'm not knocking the Sovereign one hunt with my friends the Sovereign recovered a nice Barb Dime and a 1880 Canadian half dime the four other hunters didn't even find a wheat, another previous hunt with the Sovereign found a Seated Dime close to eleven inches and a 1865 IH. The point, the Sovereign does work great and has some advantages but for deep coins and better separation the Explorer is the way to go none better.Though I have not used the Etrac.Good Luck
